  • New Exhibit Alert: Second State, Second Edition

As we bid adieu to 2012 and enter what is undoubtedly the biggest year yet for all things Metropolitan, a new group of artists are enlivened in our community art space, Metro Gallery 250.

We are delighted to welcome the printmakers of Second State Press, the premier print workshop in Philadelphia in the Crane Arts, to show in “Second State, Second Edition”, a new continuation of the Second State’s annual “Print Exchange” that opened mid December.  The exhibit is set to open on Saturday, January 19th at Noon and will show through Sunday, February 24th on weekends and by appointment on weekdays.

“Second State, Second Edition” will present forty six, 8”x10” prints created by the members of Second State Press, working within a number of mediums that include intaglio (etching), relief, screen printing and lithography.

The exhibitionis a unique continuation of the annual “Print Exchange”, allowing Second State volnuteers known as “Fob Holders” to create and show new bodies of work for their peers and their community.  The “Fob” in Fob Holder is derived from the small thumbprint-like key that allows its holders unlimited access to the SSP workspace in exchange for 12 hours of volunteer work at SSP- as you can imagine, these spots are coveted in the print artists community of Philadelphia.

Jennifer McTague, Co-Director of SSP says, “The idea is to give artists a professional workshop that is also affordable.”

She elaborates, “There are some interesting things that happen when printmakers from all different backgrounds come together and share ideas, creating an amazing dialogue around contemporary print making.”

And since everyone loves a good First Friday, join us for a special reception in the Gallery on Friday, February 1st from 6-9pm at 250 18th Street, complete with complimentary Metro snacks.  Plus, be sure to subscribe to our Metro Gallery 250 Facebook for weekly updates, exhibit photos and community art buzz.
